Hans van Hage, Marianne Lundahl, Geertje van der Krogt en Eric de Milliano offer you a warm welcome to the Rozenkwekerij de Bierkreek.

 

Eric's knowledge of soil and fertilization, Geertje’s love for flowers, the nursery background of Hans and the ecological background of Marianne all came together in 1999 to form what is now called the Biological Rozenkwekerij De Bierkreek.  We grow roses organically; always striving for the highest quality of the plants we sell, while continually searching for new and better varieties.

 

The nursery is named after the creek that flows across the yard and has grown to 5 hectares.  The roses are grown in a sustainable manner, in harmony with nature and without chemicals (fertilizers or pesticides).  Thus we contribute to a healthy environment and we can, in good conscience, enjoy the beautiful colors and fragrances the rose world offers us.

The four individual members can of course not do without the full team. Before our roses bloom in your garden, each of us has lovingly cared for and/or grown each of them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hans searches worldwide for roses and then brings them to Bierkreek to propagate and observe. This includes a full range of popular varieties, Antique varieties, Rediscovered varieties, new varieties and varieties bred by amateurs that have never entered the market. Hans works in close contact with growers around the world, plus respected European Rose Gardens such as Sangerhausen in Germany and The Fineschi Garden in Italy.

Hans also handles the contacts and sales to companies. Hans and Eric are the men on the field, Hans for the types of roses, Eric for the growing of them. Together with Geertje, Hans also does excursions, tours and lectures.

 

 

Marianne coordinates the website, the newsletter and the annual program. Additionally, the design of the Geschwind Garden at Castle Hex is also from her imagination and hand. She's spends almost every Saturday in the rose fields.

Marianne is the ecologist of the nursery. Because the nursery strives to keep free of disease and pests using natural enemies, it is important to maintain the proper environment for them. Together with Hans and Geertje she looks for the right harmony with nature.

 

 

Geertje runs the office and administration. Sustainability is her specialty. She monitors the business, policy, politics and corporate social structure, which is based on the principles of “Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR): The sustainable triangle of people, planet and profit.  

Geertje also runs the store at the nursery, helps customers and together with Hans does the lectures, tours and excursions.

 

 

Eric is our technician. He is busy all day with soil, fertilization, pest and disease prevention, machinery and water. Because the farm is the only ecological rose nursery in the Netherlands, much of the existing equipment found on the market today is not adapted to our  organic growing methods.

Eric works with the technicians of a farm mechanization company to either invent, build or adapt the machinery we use at Bierkreek. An example of this is our “Pneumatic Weeder”.
